Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many children do you take in a class?

A: We can accommodate up to 24 children per session. If over the 24 limit, a second incursion needs to be booked.

Q: How long is each class?

A: The duration of each weekly class is approximately 40 minutes and runs across the year during school terms. We also offer one-off 45 minute incursions. We are very flexible and happy to customise classes if requested.

Q: How does a Childcare Centre/Kindergarten enrol in Carrots & Co?

A: The Centre can get in touch with Carrots & Co via the website / bookings or contact page to enquire further.

Q: What are the learning outcomes?

A: Upon completing the weekly incursion program from A-Z, children will have the ability to identify and name each fruit, veggie & herb that they come across, they will learn the parts of the edible plant, why colours are so important when it comes to fruit & veg, seasonality, different parts of the body that fruit and veg can help with, and of course the difference between a vegetable and a fruit. They will learn that fruit and veg is as cool as a cucumber!

As they say "from little things (like mustard seeds!) big things grow" and hopefully into a lifelong journey of making excellent food choices!

Q: What age group is The Travelling Fruit & Vegetable Show designed for?

The program is designed for 2 - 6 year olds, however we are certainly able to customise our sessions for a younger age group. Please just ask!

Q: Which areas does Carrots & Co serve?

A: Carrots & Co currently serves Metro Melbourne, The Yarra Ranges & the Mornington Peninsula, however, we would love to hear from you if you are outside this area. Drop us a Kale-Mail!

Q: Do you have your own public liability, & do the instructors hold current WWCC?

A: Yes, Carrots & Co has their own public liability insurance and all instructors hold a valid working with children's check.

Q: Are Watermelons and Pumpkins technically Berries?

A: Yes, that's correct (not a frequently asked question but just in case you were wondering :))

Q: I am a parent, how does my child enrol in the program?

A: Speak to your Childcare Provider and ask them about Carrots & Co, or contact us below in the Kale-Mail and we can get in touch with your Centre.

Q: Do you need a Centre Educator present when conducting the class?

A: Yes, an Educator is required to be present during each class as per the rules and regulations.

Q: Why choose Carrots & Co? Is this program really the pick of the bunch?

A: This SPUD-tacular program is the first of its kind and an innovative game-changer in the early learning setting, focusing on a timeless challenge for parents to get their kids to eat more veg and fruit! One of the greatest things you can do to improve your health and well-being is to eat more vegetables and fruit. Good habits and food choices start early and Carrots & Co feel privileged to be able to help inspire children on this very important journey.

By showcasing fresh produce in a fun and engaging way, hopefully this sparks their curiosity and encourages the children to go home and fill their plates with colourful produce!

Q: Are there any extra apeeling bits?

A: Absolutely! To extend the children's learning and curiosity about veg & fruit, the families & Centres will receive a weekly yummy reciPEA ecard (if participating in the weekly incursion program), featuring a hero vegetable that was introduced in that particular class. This will help encourage children to want to go home and cook and eat it with their family!

If you need any more encourage-MINT to have us partner with you, Carrots & Co send out a weekly e-mail to Centres (if participating in the weekly incursion program) prior to each class so that the families can find out what fruit and veg will be covered in the corresponding class. This enables Parents (should they wish) to have on hand at home those particular veg and fruit, so the children can enjoy trying it at home.

Not to mention all the added important bits that Carrots & Co provides, such as fostering children's creativity, building their confidence through drama and encouraging imaginative play. Our incursions are jam packed with variety!

Q: How many weeks of the year do you run?

A: Our one-off incursions can be booked all year round, excluding the VIC school holidays. Our weekly classes follow the school terms (41 weeks in total)

Important

Whilst there is no taste-testing/eating of the fresh produce in the classes, children will be holding/touching the fresh produce. Please advise prior to commencement of the program if your child has any food allergies to specific vegetables & fruit. Thanks a bunch!
